Welcome to the official website of Franklin Township
Several residents have called trustees asking why our voting location is moved? Or why didn't we have a say in it moving? The reason is local election officials have eliminated 30 precincts and consolidated polling spots throughout Licking County. The Licking County Board of Elections said trimming precincts countywide from 125 to 95 and consolidating 47 polling locations into 26 should save about $20,000. This covers poll workers, ballot delivery and gas. The board also said that new technology combined with new policy will allow voters to go to the shortest line to cast their ballot and should speed up the process.
All these decisions were made without any township input and no township official was made aware of these changes until the county sent their post card last month to all registered voters. Absentee and early voting began Oct. 1 at the board office, 20 S. Second St., Newark, and will continue through Nov. 2. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, with expanded hours of 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 2. If anyone has any other questions please contact the Board of Elections at 740-670-5080.
